the Forthcoming Nuptials and this whole Cirque du dysfunction known as Matrimony

Don’t ask me how, but I have managed to get off the hook when it comes to making decisions on flower arrangements, wedding cakes, and photographers. Here I thought all I had to do was buy the ring and I was off the hook for everything else. Who knew getting married would require so many decisions and aggravate so many people?

If your looking for an easy way to get back at all those people who never returned your phone calls, text messages, or emails growing up; (not to mention they always seemed to forgot your birthday at the most convenient times) do yourself a favor and get married. People hate not being invited to these engagements.

Traditionally the bride and groom usually receive wedding gifts either the day of the bridal shower, at the wedding ceremony, or afterwards at the reception. If you do intend to purchase something off our wedding registry and it happens to be bigger than the size of a hundred dollar bill, please use Fed Ex. While I understand the appeal of giving us something on our wedding day, Hell hath no greater fury than that of a pissed off newlywed trying to cram her wedding gifts in her suitecase.

Seriously, have you tried explaining to airport security why you’ve got a whole set of kitchen cutlery hidden in your carry on? Didn’t think so.

My Bachelorhood: The Beginning of the End

Almost nine months ago Jessica and I made the decision we were leaving Oregon altogether. We both liked the idea of living in a place where the weather may change daily, but you can always count on at least four days of sun every week. You could say we certainly picked the right place to be. Around that same time I decided I needed a break from this and time to collect my thoughts. I’m happy to report the collection process is now complete.

In January of this year I was promoted into management with the bank. Jess and I knew it was only a matter of time before this happened, we just didn’t know it would happen seemingly three months after I moved down here. This in turn has alleviated much of the stress in my life and has left me optimistic about the future and what I’m doing here. This has also been a huge turn around from a year ago, where in I worked for two very selfish people whose only interest in life was in showing me the door; rather than helping me succeed in my job. Oddly enough, today these two people are no longer employed by my company. Karma?

About two weeks before I was promoted, I proposed to Jessica. (More details to come soon) Of course without any hesitation, she gladly accepted. This in turn sent everyone and everything into a full blown frenzy. My parent’s initial reaction ranged from something along the lines of “you’ve done what” to “she’s not pregnant is she?”

While her parents seemed to say in more words than none, “welcome to the family son”, all I’ve been able to think of is “oh my god, what the hell am I doing giving myself a whole other set of parents to try and please?” Now that the initial shock has worn off and we are all slowly adjusting to the idea of marriage, I believe it’s safe to announce Jessica and I are getting married later this year.
